Thomas --- I have been out of the baking buesness for a long time but I still bake bread at home I bake bread in a pre-heated
at 375*F if I want a dark brown crust I bake it at 40O*F. ABOUT 28 TO 30 MINUTS.
when done it will have a hollow sound when thumped on the bottom. Ovens vary in the way they distribute the heat so you will need to watch your bread the first time or two. hope this helps you. jim b

You didn't say whether you're talking about a yeast bread or a quick bread or whatever, so I can't really answer for you since both can be baked in a standard bread pan. But I've given you a link below to a good site for lots of different bread recipes.

The banana bread I baked today was for 50 minutes in a preheated 350 F oven. It is important to preheat your oven when baking bread, cookies, pies, and pastries. Most breads would be 45 minutes to an hour in a 350 F oven, but I recommend you check some of the other recipes to find one similar to yours.

As far as how to know when it's done, a quick bread will pull away from the edges or you can do the toothpick test like you would for a cake (insert toothpick in center and if it comes out clean, it's done). Yeast breads are done when they have the right color on the crust and they sound hollow when you thump them with a finger! I guess I've been baking breads and other things for so long, I just know when they're done!
