fast meals?

this morning for breakfast, i gave dougnuts and fruit in the car on the way to work to my 1 & 2 year old!!! yes i know, shame on me.. we had over slept and i was in a RUSH because i was running late and didnt have time to make them a meal like i should. i didnt even have time for them to sit down and have a bowl of cereal! i’d like some advice for quick (but HEALTHY meals) in the mornings when its crazy and i’m in a hurry… it doesnt happen alot but it does happen. any ideas?
yes some cereals are super sugary!! when they have cold cereal its usually honey nut cheerios but when i give them cereal i generally give them hot cereal since its thicker so they wont go hungry waiting for lunch time

    Whole wheat bagels or english muffins with reduced fat cream cheese, kids love it. I give my daughter that for breakfast on the run.

    my kid does not like cereals or pancakes (weird ha) so in the morning he usually gets an egg; but when we are on the go; I rolled a turkey ****** ( the one for sandwiches) and cheese sticks, I always have fruit and baby carrots available; also raisins are great treat

    Make eggs and cheese in burritos or as quesadillas and just heat them up. Also make the real oatmeal, and reheat when needed. Just be careful with cereal as some are just as sugary as donuts.

    Other things even are egg casseroles, or quiches. These are great for hiding little bits of veggies for developing tastes.

    Cereal bars are pretty quick, just grab from pantry and go. Gogurt, which may be too much in the car for a 1&2 year old but maybe in a year or two they could master it without a big mess but for them to eat that while you get ready if you have enough time.

    fruit is always good. You can make them a fruit and yougurt cup that they can take with them. You can always maek breakfasts wraps with scrambled eggs and cheese. IF you have time you can add bacon or sausage to it. You can take a cup of cherios and let them eat that in the car with a banana or something. Kids really like the gogurt, thats yogurt in a tube.

    How about a scrambled egg and cheese taco? You can serve it on a whole wheat tortilla if you prefer. You can top it off with a banana. Don’t feel guilty about the donuts, your entitled to a rushed meal from time to time.

    Eggo waffles are good and fast in the am they have whole wheat ones, they have eggo pancakes now.
    Toast with Nutella, really good.
    Peanut butter toast with a touch of honey.
    A boiled egg with dill sprinkled on top(3 1/2 min for soft boiled and they can dip plain toast into the yolk).
    Yogurt, banana (fruit) smoothies with milk and phyllisium.
    Oatmeal always good with maple syrup.
    These are all the things I give me 4 & 7 yr old.
    They eat that while I am doing my make up.

    Or make banana muffins/ loaf and freeze them (precut) and take them out and pop them into the toaster… Voila!

    I guess it depends on how sophisticated a pallate your children have. My 14 (almost 15) month old eats alot of things most kids would stick their nose up at. Something I found that was fast and easy that he loves is to take an egg and beat it in a bowl with a little milk. Toss in some chopped broccoli pieces and about a tablespoon of low fat cheddar shreds. Microwave it in a microwave safe bowl that is lightly sprayed with olive oil or some other no stick spray lightly. Cook on high for about 1 minute and slide out onto a plate and cut into bite size pieces to pick up. He loves it!

    On really crazy mornings I have made toast or mini bagels for him in the toaster wtih some cream cheese or fruit spread on it.

    Pancakes are always simple to do and you can roll up a piece of turkey bacon or sausage that is cooked in the middle and make a “pig in the blanket” for breakfast. If you buy the precooked heat and serve bacon or sausage it’s even faster. It works with plain, whole grain, or fruit pancakes.

    I also keep individual packets of instant oatmeal in flavors my son likes because they are the perfect portion for toddlers and little ones- plus they are fast!

    For vacations and trips we are sometimes rushed in the morning and you can make a dry cereal mix using chex (not the sugary ones), graham cracker sticks, raisins or dried cranberries tossed together and put in little baggies or lidded snack bowls to eat in the car. I’ve done that once or twice and taken along a chilled sippy cup of milk to have with it. The little cups of applesauce are also good with this too.

    Yogurt with a crumbled granola bar on top and a toasted bagel.

    Make your own breakfast sandwiches. Cook your sausage patty or use bacon. Toast an english muffin and top with a slice of your child’s fave cheese. Do a scrambled egg (see above but leave out cheese and broccoli) and assemble the sandwich and you’ve made your own “mcmuffin” at home. It takes about 10 minutes to do and if you have to run out the door they travel well. IF you don’t want to use eggs and breakfast meats you could use a slice of tomato and piece of low fat turkey or ham from the deli in a pinch as well. If you want the meat warm just zap in the microwave for about 10 seconds.

    Quick cooking grits take about 10 mintues or less once the water boils.

    Make whole grain blue berry muffins the night before and warm them in the morning for about 5-10 seconds in the microwave to get the chill off them. You can put cream cheese or butter spread on them if you want then to eat.

    If you have a waffle iron it only takes 10 minutes to mix and do waffles from scratch and they are WAY better than those frozen roofing tiles that people call waffles. Use a plain pancake mix and make it semi thick. Add in a 1/4 cup melted peanut butter and put in your waffle iron (lightly spray with baking spray or it will stick bad). Take some fruit spread of choice and dilute with 1 tablespoon of orange juice to drizzle for peanut butter jelly waffles. You can also mash up fresh fruit to use instead if you don’t want to do fruit spread mix and it works just as well.

    Cinnamon french toast sticks are the best. Heat them up in the microwave and they don’t even need syrup since the cinnamon is on them. I even give my kids the peanut butter crackers with a banana. English muffin with fruit spread, Granola bars or fruit bars. Easy easy stuff. Also you can get instant oatmeal microwave it up add little bit of milk and sugar. my kids love it and my daughter wants to eat it for dinner or lunch.
